You can install your eSIMno eSIM at any time before your trip - installing alone does not start your plan. The countdown begins once the eSIM connects to a network inside your plan's coverage area, so keep the eSIM line and Data Roaming switched off until you arrive. Please note: an installed eSIM is considered used and is no longer eligible for a refund, so install it on the phone you will actually travel with.
Prefer to wait? No problem — you can install and activate your eSIM upon arrival. However, you will need a strong Wi-Fi connection for the process. We recommend avoiding public Wi-Fi at airports or parks for a smoother setup.
The eSIM activates - and your plan duration begins - the moment it connects to a mobile network inside your plan's coverage area. You do not need to browse anything: when the line is on (with Data Roaming enabled), the phone connects by itself and that first connection starts the countdown. That is why you should keep the eSIMno line and its Data Roaming OFF until you arrive and are ready to start. Important: if your plan also covers the country you are in right now, turning the line on at home will activate it immediately.
Some phones can turn the new line on by themselves right after install. If that happened only outside your plan's coverage area, nothing has started - the eSIM cannot activate there. But if your eSIM already shows as Active in your eSIMno account, the plan has started and the days are counting. To stay in control, keep the line and Data Roaming off until you arrive.
If the eSIM shows as Active in your account, the validity countdown is already running - turning Data Roaming off afterwards stops data usage, but it does not pause the days. You can check your eSIM status at esimno.com under Profile > My eSIMs. If something looks wrong, contact us at [email protected] and we will help.
You can now transfer an existing eSIM directly from your old iPhone using the new QR-less Transfer From Nearby iPhone flow — no need to scan the original QR code again. See iOS 26 eSIM Transfer feature for the full walkthrough.
