What is the new eSIM Transfer feature on iOS 26?

Starting with iOS 26 (released September 2025), Apple introduced a QR-less eSIM Transfer From Nearby iPhone flow. When you set up a new iPhone running iOS 26 or later, you can move an existing eSIM directly from your old iPhone without needing to rescan the original QR code or contact the carrier.

When this is useful

  • You bought a new iPhone (iPhone 17 series, or any iPhone upgraded to iOS 26) and want to move your eSIMno plan from the old device.
  • You lost the original QR code from your order email and the eSIM is still active on the old iPhone.
  • You are restoring a backup that does not include eSIM profiles (eSIM is never included in iCloud backups).

How to use it

  1. On the new iPhone, open Settings > Cellular / Mobile Data > Add eSIM.
  2. Choose "Transfer From Nearby iPhone".
  3. Bring the old iPhone close — you will see a confirmation prompt on the old device.
  4. Tap "Continue" on the old iPhone to authorize the transfer.
  5. Wait a few moments — the eSIM profile is removed from the old iPhone and activated on the new one.
  6. Re-enable Data Roaming for the new eSIM and pick it as the data line if needed.

Important notes

  • Both iPhones must be on iOS 26 or later and have Bluetooth enabled.
  • The eSIM is removed from the old iPhone once the transfer completes. There is no "copy" option.
  • If you only have one eSIM left on the plan and the transfer fails midway, please open a support ticket with us — we can re-issue the profile.
  • eSIM Transfer is not yet supported between iPhone and Android, or between Apple ID accounts.
