How to Get Your eSIM

  1. Choose Your Data Amount
Select from 20GB, 50GB or 100GB based on how much you expect to use over 30 days. All plans include the same unlimited outgoing calls and SMS within geographic Europe.
  2. Complete Your Purchase
Provide an email address where you'll receive your eSIM QR code and installation instructions. No physical SIM card ships—everything arrives digitally.
  3. Install Before or After Arrival
Scan the QR code in your device settings to add the eSIM profile. You can install while still at home or wait until you land in Malta.
  4. Activate and Start Using
Once installed, enable the eSIM as your active line. Your French phone number becomes available for outgoing and incoming calls, SMS and mobile data.

How the Voice Plan Works

This eSIM gives you a real mobile phone number—specifically a French (+33) number—alongside your data allowance. The two directions of communication work differently, which matters when you're explaining how to reach you.

Outgoing calls and SMS are unlimited, but only while you're physically located within geographic Europe. This isn't tied to EU membership; countries like Switzerland, the UK and Norway count. Step outside this geography—fly home to visit family in Australia, for example—and outgoing calls stop working.

Incoming calls and SMS are free and work anywhere in the world. Someone dialling your French number reaches you whether you're in Malta, back home, or travelling elsewhere after your Malta stay. SMS verification codes from banks, booking confirmations from airlines, and callbacks from any service all arrive without eating into your allowance.

Data works within Malta on the Vodafone network. All plans run exactly 30 days from activation, and when that period ends—or if you exhaust your data—the line closes. There's no refill option, so you'll need a new plan if you're staying longer.

Receiving Calls in the Maltese Islands

Incoming calls and SMS reach your French number free—even after you leave Malta.

Is This Plan Right for You?

The Voice plan fits when: Your stay runs several weeks and services need to reach you by phone—rental agencies, healthcare providers, banks, delivery couriers. You want one number that works for callbacks no matter where you are in the world. You'll make frequent local calls or need to send SMS to European numbers.

A data-only plan fits better when: Your trip is short and you handle everything through WhatsApp, email or messaging apps. You don't need anyone dialling a phone number to reach you. You want the lowest cost for a quick visit. If that sounds like your situation, the Malta Unlimited provides high-speed data without the phone-number component, which keeps things simpler for casual travel.

Be honest about how you actually communicate. Paying for voice features you won't use wastes money; not having them when a bank's fraud department needs to call you creates real problems.

Understanding Your French Number

The phone number you receive is French, with a +33 country code. It's not a Maltese number, so anyone calling you dials internationally. For most practical purposes this makes no difference—your phone rings the same way—but it's worth knowing when you give out the number.

Local Maltese businesses may occasionally ask for a local mobile number. In nearly every case, providing your French number works fine; they're calling or texting you, and that reaches you without issue. The distinction only matters if a service specifically refuses non-Maltese numbers, which is rare.

If you're comparing options or only need mobile data without voice features, you can explore the Malta for standard data plans that don't include a phone number.

Traveller Tips

  • Save your French number in your own contacts so you can share it accurately when asked—the +33 prefix matters for international dialling.
  • Give this number to your bank before travelling so fraud-alert callbacks reach you, regardless of which country you're in when they phone.
  • Test an outgoing call soon after activation to confirm the voice line works before you rely on it for something important.
  • Keep your home SIM active on another device or stored safely—you may need it for services that refuse international numbers.
  • Tell family and frequent contacts to save your temporary French number; incoming calls are free to you wherever you travel next.
  • Plan your data tier carefully from the start—there's no way to add more data or extend validity once the plan is active.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The Voice eSIM provides a French (+33) number rather than a local Maltese number. This is how the plan is structured by the supplier. Callers dial the French number to reach you, and your phone rings normally in Malta or anywhere else. For receiving calls and SMS—including verification codes—it works exactly as you'd expect.
No. Unlimited outgoing calls and SMS only work while you're physically in geographic Europe. If you travel outside this area—returning home to North America or Asia, for example—outgoing calls and SMS stop functioning. However, incoming calls and SMS remain free worldwide, so people can still reach you.
No. Incoming calls and SMS are free and don't deduct from your allowance. This works anywhere in the world, not just in Europe. Verification codes, callbacks from your bank, and texts from services all arrive at no charge to you.
No. The Voice plan cannot be refilled or extended. When your 30-day validity ends or your data runs out, the line closes permanently and your French number stops working. If you need to continue, you'll need to purchase a new plan with a new number.
The Malta Voice eSIM connects to the Vodafone network for data, calls and SMS throughout the Maltese islands.
Yes. Incoming SMS messages—including verification codes from banks, airlines and apps—arrive on your French number free of charge. This works globally, so codes reach you whether you're in Malta or have already travelled elsewhere.

Seamless global eSIM coverage

Get Started
The Malta Voice eSIM bundles mobile data with a real phone number that handles both calls and SMS. While you're physically anywhere in geographic Europe—not limited to EU member states—outgoing calls and SMS are unlimited. Incoming calls and SMS are free and work anywhere in the world, so a callback from your home country bank or an SMS verification code from an airline reaches you whether you're in Valletta or visiting family back home after your Malta stay ends. This plan fits travellers whose stay stretches into weeks: freelancers awaiting client callbacks, anyone renting accommodation that communicates by phone, or those who need a stable number for local services like healthcare appointments and delivery confirmations. If your trip is a short holiday where messaging apps handle everything, a data-only plan keeps things simpler and costs less. The Voice plan earns its place when you genuinely need people and services to dial or text a mobile number that rings. The number you receive is French (+33), not Maltese, so callers dial an international format to reach you. Plans run for 30 days and cannot be refilled or topped up—when validity ends or your allowance runs out, the line closes permanently. Choose the data tier that matches your usage from the start, because there's no extending it later.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find helpful information to answer your questions

How long is the validity of the Malta-voice eSIM plans?
The validity of eSIM plans varies from 7 days to 90 days depending on the plan you choose. Lifetime options are also available for travelers who don't want their data to expire after a fixed period.
How can I purchase the Malta-voice eSIM?
You can purchase your eSIM directly from the eSIMno website - select a Malta-voice plan and complete the payment. Within minutes you'll receive an order confirmation email that contains everything you need to install: a QR code, a one-tap install link, the SM-DP+ address and activation code, plus an "Install eSIM" button. You can install straight from that email, or sign in anytime and go to Profile > My eSIMs > Install to get the same options.
Is the eSIM connection secure?
eSIM connections are as secure as standard cellular connections - encrypted by the carrier network. For added security on public networks (cafes, airports), use a VPN. The eSIM profile itself is digitally signed and can't be cloned like a physical SIM.
How can I check my data usage?
Log in to the eSIMno Center on our website or mobile app to see your remaining data balance and usage history. You can also check usage in your phone's cellular data settings - most devices show data consumed per line.
What makes eSIMno different from other eSIM services?
eSIMno partners directly with local operators in over 200 countries, eliminating intermediaries. This direct relationship lets us offer competitive pricing, extensive coverage, and faster activation than resellers who route data through third parties.
Can I install my eSIM before traveling?
Yes - setting it up before your trip is the easiest approach. Your confirmation email contains the QR code, a one-tap install link and the manual SM-DP+ / activation codes (the same options are also available via sign in > Profile > My eSIMs > Install). While on Wi-Fi at home, install it with the one-tap link on your phone, or - to use the QR - show it on another screen or a printout and scan it with the phone you are setting up (not another phone). Installing does not start your plan: the validity countdown only begins when the eSIM connects to a mobile network inside your plan's coverage area. Keep the eSIM line and its Data Roaming off until you are ready to start - if your plan covers the country you are in right now, turning the line on connects and starts the countdown immediately, even if you do not browse anything. Please note: once installed, an eSIM is considered used and is no longer eligible for a refund.
What payment methods does eSIMno accept?
eSIMno accepts major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All transactions are processed through secure encrypted gateways, and we don't store full card details on our servers.
What happens if I pause my trip and return home?
Your eSIM keeps its validity period running whether you're using it or not - pausing your trip doesn't pause the timer. If you return home, the eSIM stays dormant on your device until you travel again or it expires. You can disable it in cellular settings to avoid accidental usage.
Do I need to remove my eSIM after my trip?
You don't have to remove it. Once your data plan expires, the eSIM simply stops providing data. You can leave the dormant profile on your phone and reuse it next time by purchasing a new plan, or delete it from cellular settings to free up an eSIM slot.
How do I set up the eSIM on my device?
The fastest way is straight from your order confirmation email, which now contains - for each eSIM - the QR code, a one-tap install link, and the SM-DP+ / activation codes. On the phone you'll use, tap the one-tap install link; or, to use the QR, show it on another screen or a printout and scan it with that same phone (not another phone); or enter the codes manually. The email also has an "Install eSIM" button that opens your eSIM's detail page and launches the install pop-up (sign in if prompted), and you can reach the same pop-up anytime via Profile > My eSIMs > find your plan (shown as "Ready to install") > Install. After installing, turn Data Roaming ON for your eSIMno line (iPhone: Settings > Cellular; Android: Settings > Connections/Network) - without it the eSIM installs but shows no internet. Full guide in Help & Support.
How do I activate the Malta-voice eSIM?
Your eSIMno order confirmation email contains your QR code, your SM-DP+ address and activation code, a one-tap install link, and an "Install eSIM" button - so you can install right from the email. The same options are also on the website: sign in at esimno.com and go to Profile > My eSIMs > your plan > Install. To install, use any ONE of these methods: (1) on the phone you are setting up, tap the one-tap install link/button (iPhone on iOS 17.4+ or Android 9+); (2) use the QR code - because a phone cannot scan its own screen, show this QR on another screen (computer/tablet) or a printout and scan it WITH the phone you are setting up (never with someone else's phone, or the eSIM would install on that phone); or (3) enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code manually. Your Malta-voice eSIM activates automatically when you connect to a local network at your destination.
Can I use the eSIM for my smartwatch?
Some smartwatches (Apple Watch Cellular, Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE) support eSIM, but they typically require a plan from your home carrier rather than a travel eSIM. eSIMno plans are designed for phones and tablets - check device compatibility before purchase if you intend to use a wearable.
