Hong Kong Unlimited eSIM – Share One Connection with Your Group

Three phones, two tablets, and a laptop all waiting for you to share your hotspot—and you are the one who organised this trip. The eSIMno Hong Kong Unlimited plan gives your group 1 GB of high-speed data every day, and when that runs out the connection slows to 128 Kbps but never cuts off. One purchase, one hotspot, and everyone stays online.

How to Get Your eSIM

  1. Purchase and receive
Complete your order on eSIMno and receive your eSIM QR code and installation details by email within minutes.
  2. Scan the QR code
Open your device settings, add a cellular plan, and scan the QR code. Keep Wi-Fi connected during this step.
  3. Label your new line
Name it something clear like 'HK Unlimited' so you can identify it easily in your settings.
  4. Activate when ready
Switch the eSIM to your active data line when you arrive in Hong Kong or when you want coverage to begin.
  5. Enable hotspot
Turn on personal hotspot in your phone settings to share the connection with your group's devices.

How the Unlimited Plan Works

Each day you receive 1 GB of high-speed data. Use it for video calls, uploads, map downloads, or sharing your hotspot with several devices at once. When that 1 GB is gone, the connection continues at 128 Kbps for the rest of the day—slow, but enough to keep maps updating, messages flowing, and emails arriving.

The daily allowance resets at midnight UTC+8. That is a fixed moment in UTC, not midnight where you are, so check your phone's UTC offset if you plan around it. After the reset, you have a fresh 1 GB to use.

Be clear about what 128 Kbps means: messaging apps work, navigation apps refresh, and email syncs. Video streaming does not work well. Voice-over-IP calls will struggle or fail. This is the trade-off that makes the plan practical for groups—steady low-bandwidth access even after heavy use.

This is a data-only eSIM. There is no phone number attached, so you cannot make or receive traditional calls or SMS. If you need a local number for verification codes or voice calls, you will need a separate solution.

Is This Plan Right for You?

The Hong Kong Unlimited eSIM fits well when you are the group organiser running a single hotspot for family or colleagues. It suits trips of seven days or fewer where moderate daily usage across several devices matters more than peak speeds. If your group mostly needs maps, messaging, travel apps, and occasional browsing, the 1 GB daily quota usually covers morning and afternoon activity, and the slower fallback keeps everyone functional until the next reset.

This plan is not the best choice if you need heavy individual data use, video streaming throughout the day, or reliable high-speed connections for extended video calls. It also does not suit trips longer than a week—when validity ends, the line closes and cannot be refilled or extended. For longer stays or heavier usage, explore the Hong Kong for standard data plans with larger fixed allowances and validity up to 30 days. Those plans let you match gigabytes to your actual needs without the daily slowdown structure.

Traveller Tips

  • Download offline maps of Hong Kong's MTR system and key districts before your high-speed quota runs out each day—they work fine at any speed once cached.
  • Set your phone to show data usage so you can see how close you are to the 1 GB threshold and adjust hotspot sharing accordingly.
  • Keep one device as the dedicated hotspot and disable background app refresh on connected devices to stretch your daily allowance further.
  • The 128 Kbps fallback speed handles WhatsApp text and voice messages well, so switch to voice notes instead of calls when speeds drop.
  • If your trip exceeds seven days, plan to purchase a second eSIM or switch to a standard data plan—there is no way to refill or extend this line.
  • Disable automatic cloud photo uploads on all connected devices; a single sync can burn through the daily quota before anyone checks a map.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The connection continues at 128 Kbps until the next reset at midnight UTC+8. You are never cut off. The slower speed is enough for maps, messaging, and email, but it will not support video streaming or voice-over-IP calls reliably.
No. This line cannot be refilled or extended. When your validity period ends, the eSIM closes permanently. For longer trips, purchase a new eSIM or choose a standard data plan with longer validity.
Yes. Navigation apps like Google Maps update your position and recalculate routes at 128 Kbps without major delays, especially if you cache map areas in advance. Messaging apps including WhatsApp, Telegram, and iMessage send text and voice messages normally. Email syncs fine for text-based messages. Video calls, streaming, and large downloads will not work well at this speed.
The allowance resets at midnight UTC+8. That is a fixed moment in UTC, not midnight where you are, so check your phone's UTC offset if you plan around it.
No. This is a data-only eSIM with no phone number attached. You cannot make or receive traditional voice calls or SMS. Use internet-based apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime for communication.
The number of devices depends on your phone's hotspot settings, not the eSIM. Most smartphones allow five to ten simultaneous connections. Keep in mind that more devices sharing the connection will use the 1 GB daily allowance faster.

Seamless global eSIM coverage

Get Started
The Hong Kong Unlimited eSIM delivers 1 GB of high-speed data every day. Once you use that allowance, the connection continues at 128 Kbps until the next reset at midnight UTC+8—that is a fixed moment in UTC, not midnight where you are, so check your phone's UTC offset if you plan around it. The slower speed handles maps, messaging, and email without trouble, but it will not support video streaming or voice calls. This is a data-only line: there is no phone number, no voice calls, and no SMS. This plan works well when one person runs a hotspot for a small group—family members checking directions, colleagues syncing documents, or a partner scrolling social media while you navigate. If your group's combined usage stays moderate, the daily quota refreshes and you start fresh. However, if you need consistently high speeds for video conferencing, large uploads, or heavy individual use over more than seven days, the standard Hong Kong data plans offer larger fixed allowances and longer validity. The longest Unlimited plan is seven days. When validity ends, the line closes permanently—there is no way to refill or extend it. For trips beyond a week, purchase a standard data plan instead or buy a second Unlimited eSIM when the first expires. Be realistic about your group's habits: the Unlimited label means the connection persists, not that full-speed data is infinite.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find helpful information to answer your questions

Should I enable data roaming for the eSIM?
Yes - you must enable data roaming for the eSIM line, even though there are no roaming charges. The eSIM connects to a local partner network and your phone treats this as roaming. Enable it: iPhone > Settings > Cellular > eSIMno line > Data Roaming ON; Android > Settings > Network > SIMs > eSIMno > Roaming ON. This setting only affects the eSIM, not your home SIM.
Is unlimited data really unlimited?
Unlimited plans provide unlimited data at high speed (4G/5G) up to a fair-use threshold defined per plan. Beyond that threshold, speeds may be reduced to 128 Kbps for the remainder of the validity period - still usable for messaging and basic browsing, but slower for streaming and video calls.
Can I keep my WhatsApp number while using an eSIM?
Yes. Your WhatsApp number stays linked to your home SIM, so all your chats, contacts, and groups remain unchanged. WhatsApp uses data (not the SIM line directly) for messages and calls, so it works seamlessly over your eSIMno data.
How do I top up my Hong-kong-unlimited eSIM?
To top up your Hong-kong-unlimited eSIM data, log in to the 'My eSIMs' section in the eSIMno Center on our website or mobile app. Select the eSIM you want to top up and follow the on-screen instructions to add more data without losing your current connection.
How do I set up the eSIM on my device?
The fastest way is straight from your order confirmation email, which now contains - for each eSIM - the QR code, a one-tap install link, and the SM-DP+ / activation codes. On the phone you'll use, tap the one-tap install link; or, to use the QR, show it on another screen or a printout and scan it with that same phone (not another phone); or enter the codes manually. The email also has an "Install eSIM" button that opens your eSIM's detail page and launches the install pop-up (sign in if prompted), and you can reach the same pop-up anytime via Profile > My eSIMs > find your plan (shown as "Ready to install") > Install. After installing, turn Data Roaming ON for your eSIMno line (iPhone: Settings > Cellular; Android: Settings > Connections/Network) - without it the eSIM installs but shows no internet. Full guide in Help & Support.
Does the eSIM work on cruise ships or airplanes?
eSIMs use ground-based cellular networks, so they don't work in flight or at sea outside coastal coverage. They activate as soon as you connect to a partner network on land. For in-flight or maritime data, you'll need the airline or ship's onboard Wi-Fi.
What payment methods does eSIMno accept?
eSIMno accepts major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All transactions are processed through secure encrypted gateways, and we don't store full card details on our servers.
How do I delete an eSIM I no longer need?
On iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap the eSIM line > Remove eSIM. On Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > tap the eSIM > Erase. Deleting the eSIM frees up a profile slot. Make sure you don't need it anymore - once deleted, you can't reinstall the same profile.
Will the eSIM work on my iPad?
Yes, if your iPad model supports eSIM. iPad Pro (3rd generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad mini (5th generation and later), and standard iPad (7th generation and later with cellular) all support eSIM. Installation works the same way as on iPhone.
Are there any hidden fees or extra charges?
No. The price you see at checkout is the total price - no activation fees, no hidden taxes, no roaming surcharges. Your data plan is fixed-price, and you'll never receive a surprise bill from your home carrier as long as you keep cellular data off on your home SIM.
How do I activate the Hong-kong-unlimited eSIM?
Your eSIMno order confirmation email contains your QR code, your SM-DP+ address and activation code, a one-tap install link, and an "Install eSIM" button - so you can install right from the email. The same options are also on the website: sign in at esimno.com and go to Profile > My eSIMs > your plan > Install. To install, use any ONE of these methods: (1) on the phone you are setting up, tap the one-tap install link/button (iPhone on iOS 17.4+ or Android 9+); (2) use the QR code - because a phone cannot scan its own screen, show this QR on another screen (computer/tablet) or a printout and scan it WITH the phone you are setting up (never with someone else's phone, or the eSIM would install on that phone); or (3) enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code manually. Your Hong-kong-unlimited eSIM activates automatically when you connect to a local network at your destination.
What should I do if I see a 'No network' message after activating my eSIM?
If you see a 'No network' message after activation, try these steps in order: (1) Toggle airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then off. (2) Confirm data roaming is enabled for the eSIM line. (3) Manually select a network in cellular settings. (4) Restart your phone. If the issue continues, contact eSIMno support via WhatsApp or email.
