Père Lachaise Cemetery eSIM: Paris Data That Works Across France

You're walking through the gates of Père Lachaise with your cemetery map loading, grave locations to search, and photos already filling your camera roll faster than the spotty park WiFi can handle. eSIMno lets you buy your France eSIM before departure, install over home WiFi, and activate the moment you land at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport — so by the time you're wandering the cobblestone paths between Chopin and Oscar Wilde, your phone is already working.

How to Get Your eSIM

  1. Choose your France data plan
Pick from 1GB to 20GB options based on your visit length. A day at Père Lachaise plus a week exploring Paris runs comfortably on 5-10GB with maps, photos, and messaging.
  2. Install before your flight departs
Scan the QR code over home WiFi and save the eSIM profile to your phone. The profile sits dormant until you reach France — no data charges while airborne.
  3. Land at CDG or Orly and switch off airplane mode
Your phone connects to Bouygues, Orange, or SFR within seconds. By the time you clear immigration, Maps is already pulling directions to the RER or taxi pickup.
  4. Take the Métro to Père Lachaise
Line 2 or Line 3 delivers you to Père Lachaise station. Your data works underground and above — live departure boards, transfer directions, and group messaging all function seamlessly.
  5. Navigate the cemetery with real-time GPS
Search grave locations, translate inscriptions, and upload photos while you walk. Your eSIM handles it all without hunting for WiFi at the cemetery gates.

Traveler Tips

  • The cemetery opens at 08:00 on weekdays and 08:30 on weekends — arriving within 30 minutes of opening means quieter paths and better photos at Jim Morrison's grave before crowds gather.
  • Père Lachaise covers 44 hectares with over 70,000 plots across hilly terrain. Download an offline cemetery map as backup, but real-time GPS positioning makes finding specific graves far easier.
  • Métro Line 2 (Philippe Auguste) and Line 3 (Père Lachaise) both reach the cemetery — Line 3 drops you directly at the main entrance on Boulevard de Ménilmontant.
  • Keep your home SIM active for incoming calls while eSIMno handles data. WhatsApp and FaceTime calls over your eSIM data avoid roaming charges on outbound voice.
  • Upload photos to cloud storage while walking rather than waiting for hotel WiFi — cemetery visits generate hundreds of images and evening uploads over crowded hostel networks crawl.
  • The Columbarium and Mur des Fédérés at the eastern edge see fewer visitors — budget 2-3 hours for a thorough visit covering both famous graves and quieter sections.

Why Data Matters at Père Lachaise

Père Lachaise spreads across 44 hectares of winding cobblestone paths, unmarked intersections, and weathered tombstones that look identical after the third left turn. Offline maps show the cemetery outline but can't track your real-time position among graves — GPS-enabled navigation on Google Maps or Citymapper pinpoints exactly which path leads to Oscar Wilde's tomb (Division 89) versus Édith Piaf's final resting place (Division 97). The difference between a focused 90-minute visit and a three-hour wander comes down to live positioning.

Grave-finding apps like 'Find a Grave' and 'BillionGraves' pull plot coordinates that only work with active data — searching 'Jim Morrison Père Lachaise' mid-walk loads directions to Division 6 in seconds. Translation apps handle weathered French epitaphs that standard guidebooks skip. Group chats keep scattered friends coordinated when someone splits off toward Chopin (Division 11) while others head for Proust (Division 85).

When you exit toward Boulevard de Ménilmontant, rideshare pickup through Uber or Bolt takes under a minute to arrange. The nearest Vélib station sits 200 meters from the main gate if you'd rather bike toward Belleville or Bastille. eSIMno plans for Père Lachaise Cemetery, Paris, France keep working across the Métro ride back to Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the evening dinner reservation confirmed through TheFork, and the morning TGV departure from Gare de Lyon toward Nice or Lyon.

Visiting Père Lachaise

The cemetery operates daily with free entry — no tickets, no timed slots, no reservation system. Summer hours (mid-March through October) run 08:00-18:00 on weekdays, 08:30-18:00 on Saturdays, and 09:00-18:00 on Sundays. Winter hours close at 17:30. The main entrance on Boulevard de Ménilmontant sees the heaviest foot traffic; the secondary entrances on Rue du Repos and Rue de la Réunion offer quieter starts.

Getting There

Métro Line 3 stops directly at Père Lachaise station, a 2-minute walk to the main gate. Line 2 serves Philippe Auguste and Gambetta stations — both within 5 minutes on foot. From CDG Airport, the RER B to Châtelet-Les Halles connects to Line 11, then transfer at République to Line 3 (total transit time around 55-65 minutes). From Orly, the Orlyval plus RER B route runs similarly.

On-Site Practicalities

Wear sturdy shoes — the terrain includes steep cobblestone paths, uneven stone steps, and gravel lanes. No food vendors operate inside; the nearest cafés cluster on Rue de la Roquette, a 10-minute walk from the main gate. Photography is permitted throughout. Guided tours depart from the main entrance on weekend mornings.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Install the eSIM profile at home over WiFi before your flight. It activates automatically when your phone connects to French networks after landing — by the time you're riding Métro Line 3 toward the cemetery, your data is already working for Maps and messaging.
Yes — Père Lachaise is an outdoor site with strong coverage from Bouygues, Orange, and SFR across the entire 44-hectare grounds. GPS positioning works accurately among the tombs for grave-finding apps, and photos upload while you walk between Division 6 and the Columbarium.
Take the RER B from CDG Terminal 2 to Châtelet-Les Halles, transfer to Métro Line 11 toward Mairie des Lilas, then switch at République to Line 3 toward Gallieni. Exit at Père Lachaise station — the main gate is a 2-minute walk. Total journey runs 55-65 minutes depending on connections.
Absolutely. Your home SIM stays active for incoming calls and texts while eSIMno handles all data tasks — Maps directions to Oscar Wilde's tomb, WhatsApp coordination with friends, photo uploads from the Mur des Fédérés. Use data-based calling apps like FaceTime or WhatsApp for outbound calls to avoid roaming charges.
Yes — your France eSIM provides nationwide coverage. After Père Lachaise, the same plan works on the TGV to Lyon, along the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, through the lavender fields of Provence, and at wine estates in Bordeaux. One purchase covers the entire country.
A focused cemetery visit with GPS navigation, grave searches, translation apps, and photo uploads runs around 300-500MB. If you're spending the full day in Paris afterward with rideshare, restaurant bookings through TheFork, and evening streaming, budget 1-2GB for the day total.

Seamless global eSIM coverage

Get Started
Père Lachaise Cemetery draws visitors who arrive with specific graves to find, historical context to look up mid-walk, and dozens of photos demanding immediate backup. The winding paths and unmarked intersections make offline navigation impractical — real-time GPS positioning and searchable grave databases turn a frustrating treasure hunt into a focused pilgrimage. Having France data active before you enter means translation apps work on weathered French inscriptions, messaging keeps your group coordinated across the 44-hectare grounds, and rideshare pickup from Boulevard de Ménilmontant takes seconds to arrange. eSIMno plans connect through Bouygues, Orange, and SFR — the same networks Parisians use daily. Coverage holds strong across the cemetery's terraced hillside, from the main entrance on Avenue du Père Lachaise down to the Columbarium and Mur des Fédérés at the eastern edge. The plan keeps working when you leave Père Lachaise for Montmartre, the Latin Quarter, or a TGV departure from Gare de Lyon. Install the eSIM profile at home before your flight. Activation happens automatically when your phone connects to French networks after landing — no airport kiosk queue, no hunting for a SIM shop near the cemetery. Your home number stays active on your original SIM for incoming calls while eSIMno handles all data tasks. One purchase, nationwide coverage, instant connectivity from CDG arrivals through your final Métro ride.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find helpful information to answer your questions

Can I install my eSIM before traveling?
Yes - setting it up before your trip is the easiest approach. Your confirmation email contains the QR code, a one-tap install link and the manual SM-DP+ / activation codes (the same options are also available via sign in > Profile > My eSIMs > Install). While on Wi-Fi at home, install it with the one-tap link on your phone, or - to use the QR - show it on another screen or a printout and scan it with the phone you are setting up (not another phone). Installing does not start your plan: the validity countdown only begins when the eSIM connects to a mobile network inside your plan's coverage area. Keep the eSIM line and its Data Roaming off until you are ready to start - if your plan covers the country you are in right now, turning the line on connects and starts the countdown immediately, even if you do not browse anything. Please note: once installed, an eSIM is considered used and is no longer eligible for a refund.
Should I enable data roaming for the eSIM?
Yes - you must enable data roaming for the eSIM line, even though there are no roaming charges. The eSIM connects to a local partner network and your phone treats this as roaming. Enable it: iPhone > Settings > Cellular > eSIMno line > Data Roaming ON; Android > Settings > Network > SIMs > eSIMno > Roaming ON. This setting only affects the eSIM, not your home SIM.
Can I make phone calls or send SMS?
eSIMno is a data-only service, so you can't make traditional voice calls or send SMS through the eSIM line. However, you can use messaging and calling apps over data - WhatsApp, iMessage, FaceTime, Telegram, Signal, and Google Meet all work normally.
What should I do if I lose my activation QR code?
You can't really lose it - your QR code is in your order confirmation email, and also in the install pop-up on the website. To reopen it any time before activation, tap "Install eSIM" in your order email, or sign in at esimno.com and go to Profile > My eSIMs > Install. Both show the QR code together with the one-tap install link and the manual SM-DP+ / activation code. Note the install codes are one-time-use: once the eSIM is installed on a device they can't be reused - reopen the installer (My eSIMs > Install) to display a fresh QR if you need one.
How can I purchase the France eSIM?
You can purchase your eSIM directly from the eSIMno website - select a France plan and complete the payment. Within minutes you'll receive an order confirmation email that contains everything you need to install: a QR code, a one-tap install link, the SM-DP+ address and activation code, plus an "Install eSIM" button. You can install straight from that email, or sign in anytime and go to Profile > My eSIMs > Install to get the same options.
Can I share data from my eSIM with someone else's phone?
Yes, through Personal Hotspot. Activate hotspot on your phone, share the password, and the other device connects to your data. Data used by connected devices counts toward your eSIM plan, so monitor usage to avoid running out faster than expected.
Can I use the eSIM to make video calls?
Yes - apps like FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams all work over your eSIM data. Video calls use about 200-400 MB per hour depending on quality, so factor that into your plan choice if you make long calls regularly.
Can I use the eSIM on more than one device?
Each eSIM profile is tied to a single device once activated. If you need data on multiple devices (e.g., phone and tablet), you can either purchase separate eSIMs for each device or use the Personal Hotspot feature on your phone to share data with other devices.
Can I use the eSIM right after purchase or do I need to wait?
Yes - you can install it immediately after purchase. Your order email arrives within minutes and contains the QR code, a one-tap install link and the manual codes, plus an "Install eSIM" button; you can also sign in > My eSIMs > Install any time. Installing right away does not start your plan - the validity countdown only begins when the eSIM connects to a mobile network inside your plan's coverage area. Keep the eSIM line and Data Roaming off until you are ready to start; if your plan covers the country you are in right now, turning the line on starts the countdown immediately.
How do I top up my France eSIM?
To top up your France eSIM data, log in to the 'My eSIMs' section in the eSIMno Center on our website or mobile app. Select the eSIM you want to top up and follow the on-screen instructions to add more data without losing your current connection.
What customer support is available if I have issues?
eSIMno offers 24/7 support via WhatsApp and email. Our human support team - not bots - handles installation help, troubleshooting, billing questions, and refund inquiries. Most issues are resolved within minutes during business hours and within a few hours overnight.
How do I activate the France eSIM?
Your eSIMno order confirmation email contains your QR code, your SM-DP+ address and activation code, a one-tap install link, and an "Install eSIM" button - so you can install right from the email. The same options are also on the website: sign in at esimno.com and go to Profile > My eSIMs > your plan > Install. To install, use any ONE of these methods: (1) on the phone you are setting up, tap the one-tap install link/button (iPhone on iOS 17.4+ or Android 9+); (2) use the QR code - because a phone cannot scan its own screen, show this QR on another screen (computer/tablet) or a printout and scan it WITH the phone you are setting up (never with someone else's phone, or the eSIM would install on that phone); or (3) enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code manually. Your France eSIM activates automatically when you connect to a local network at your destination.
