How to Get Your eSIM

  1. Pick Your Austria Data Plan
Choose from 1GB to unlimited options based on your Hallstatt itinerary—salt mine bookings, ferry tracking, and photo uploads add up faster than expected in a village this photogenic.
  2. Install Before Leaving Home
Add the eSIM profile to your phone over your home WiFi. The 2-minute setup means you're ready before your flight to Salzburg or Vienna even boards.
  3. Land and Activate
After touchdown at Salzburg Airport or Vienna International, switch off airplane mode. Your phone connects to A1, H3G, or T-Mobile within seconds—no SIM kiosk queue, no passport registration.
  4. Stay Connected Through the Journey
Track your ÖBB regional train from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof, monitor the connection at Attnang-Puchheim, and check ferry departure times as you approach Hallstatt station. Data works the entire route.
  5. Explore Without Interruption
Load your Salzwelten mine QR code, pull up Skywalk viewing times, translate German menus at lakefront restaurants, and share photos across the lake—all on reliable Austrian mobile data.

Traveler Tips

  • The ferry from Hallstatt train station to the village runs every 25-40 minutes coordinated with train arrivals—ÖBB app notifications prevent waiting on the wrong platform across the lake.
  • Salzwelten salt mine timed-entry slots fill days ahead during summer; book online and keep the QR confirmation accessible on your phone since the ticket office line can exceed 45 minutes.
  • The Hallstatt Skywalk viewing platform sits 360 meters above the lake—weather shifts fast in the Dachstein range, so check hourly forecasts before the funicular ride up.
  • Village WiFi exists in select cafes but drops between the Marktplatz and Beinhaus chapel; mobile data keeps navigation working through the narrow lanes.
  • Your home SIM stays active for incoming calls—outgoing calls work best via WhatsApp or FaceTime over your eSIM data to avoid roaming charges.

Why Data Matters in Hallstatt

Hallstatt compresses world-famous scenery into a village of under 800 permanent residents, where the main pedestrian lane runs barely 400 meters from the southern Marktplatz to the northern Badergraben staircase. That compact footprint means your phone handles navigation, tickets, and real-time logistics simultaneously rather than spread across a sprawling city.

Getting There Without Guesswork

The train-and-ferry approach from Salzburg Airport takes 2 hours 30 minutes with a platform change at Attnang-Puchheim. The ÖBB app pushes delay alerts and platform updates—miss the connection and the next train adds 60-90 minutes to the journey. Once your regional train reaches Hallstatt station on the eastern shore, the ferry departure syncs within 10 minutes; checking the live schedule on your phone beats standing at an empty dock wondering if you missed it.

Salt Mine and Skywalk Logistics

The Salzwelten salt mine above the village operates timed-entry ticketing with QR confirmation required at the tunnel entrance. Summer slots fill 3-5 days ahead; pulling up your booking on mobile saves the alternative—a 45-minute standby queue at the physical ticket window. The eSIMno plans for Hallstatt, Austria keep your confirmation loading even on the funicular ride up to the mine complex. The adjacent Hallstatt Skywalk platform offers the signature "World Heritage View" 360 meters above Hallstätter See—weather changes fast in alpine terrain, so checking the Dachstein webcam feed and hourly forecasts before committing to the €18-22 funicular fare prevents a fogged-out disappointment.

Village Navigation and Beyond

Google Maps and Komoot handle the lakeside trails, but Hallstatt's interior lanes twist between 16th-century salt-merchant houses without street signs. Offline maps help, but live directions recalculate when you inevitably take a wrong staircase toward the Beinhaus bone chapel. Day-trippers heading onward to the Dachstein ice caves or back to Salzburg rely on the same Austrian data plan—coverage extends across the entire Salzkammergut region and beyond to Vienna.

Getting Around Hallstatt and the Lake District

Train and Ferry from Salzburg

Regional trains depart Salzburg Hauptbahnhof roughly every 60-90 minutes toward Attnang-Puchheim, where travelers switch to the Hallstatt branch line. Total journey time runs 2 hours 20 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes depending on connection timing. The ferry crossing from Hallstatt station to the village waterfront takes 7 minutes and costs €3.50 each way—cash or card accepted on board.

Within the Village

Hallstatt bans most vehicle traffic inside the historic core. Walking covers everything: the Marktplatz, the Lutheran and Catholic churches, the lakefront promenade, and the Badergraben staircase leading toward the salt mine funicular. The entire pedestrian zone spans under 500 meters end to end—navigation apps help locate specific addresses tucked between buildings but distances never exceed a 10-minute walk.

Day Trips and Onward Travel

The Dachstein ice caves sit 20 minutes by car or taxi from Hallstatt; organized shuttles run from the village during summer season. The Gosausee lake trail, another Salzkammergut highlight, lies 25 kilometers northwest. Return trips to Salzburg or Vienna follow the same ÖBB rail network—live train tracking prevents missed connections at interchange stations where platform changes sometimes happen with under 5 minutes notice.

Seamless global eSIM coverage

Get Started
Hallstatt sits in the Salzkammergut lake district roughly 75 kilometers southeast of Salzburg, accessible by a combination of regional train and ferry crossing that deposits visitors directly at the village waterfront. The journey from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes with a change at Attnang-Puchheim; real-time ÖBB train updates on your phone prevent missed connections at the interchange. The final approach by ferry from Hallstatt station across the lake takes 7 minutes and runs coordinated with train arrivals—data keeps you tracking both schedules seamlessly. Once in the village, everything folds into a compact alpine footprint where the main pedestrian lane winds past 16th-century salt-merchant houses, the Beinhaus bone chapel, and lakefront cafes. The Salzwelten salt mine above the village requires timed-entry tickets with QR confirmation; the Hallstatt Skywalk viewing platform at the mine entrance offers the famous "World Heritage View" 360 meters above the lake. Both attractions benefit from booking ahead and having mobile confirmation ready. Austrian eSIM coverage extends well beyond Hallstatt—the same plan works for day trips to Salzburg's Getreidegasse, the ice caves at Dachstein, or onward travel to Vienna. Travelers who arrive through Salzburg Airport or Vienna International can activate before departure and stay connected across every regional train, alpine cable car, and lakeside ferry without hunting for public WiFi or swapping physical SIM cards.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find helpful information to answer your questions

What customer support is available if I have issues?
eSIMno offers 24/7 support via WhatsApp and email. Our human support team - not bots - handles installation help, troubleshooting, billing questions, and refund inquiries. Most issues are resolved within minutes during business hours and within a few hours overnight.
Should I enable data roaming for the eSIM?
Yes - you must enable data roaming for the eSIM line, even though there are no roaming charges. The eSIM connects to a local partner network and your phone treats this as roaming. Enable it: iPhone > Settings > Cellular > eSIMno line > Data Roaming ON; Android > Settings > Network > SIMs > eSIMno > Roaming ON. This setting only affects the eSIM, not your home SIM.
How do I set up the eSIM on my device?
The fastest way is straight from your order confirmation email, which now contains - for each eSIM - the QR code, a one-tap install link, and the SM-DP+ / activation codes. On the phone you'll use, tap the one-tap install link; or, to use the QR, show it on another screen or a printout and scan it with that same phone (not another phone); or enter the codes manually. The email also has an "Install eSIM" button that opens your eSIM's detail page and launches the install pop-up (sign in if prompted), and you can reach the same pop-up anytime via Profile > My eSIMs > find your plan (shown as "Ready to install") > Install. After installing, turn Data Roaming ON for your eSIMno line (iPhone: Settings > Cellular; Android: Settings > Connections/Network) - without it the eSIM installs but shows no internet. Full guide in Help & Support.
How do I delete an eSIM I no longer need?
On iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap the eSIM line > Remove eSIM. On Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > tap the eSIM > Erase. Deleting the eSIM frees up a profile slot. Make sure you don't need it anymore - once deleted, you can't reinstall the same profile.
Is unlimited data really unlimited?
Unlimited plans provide unlimited data at high speed (4G/5G) up to a fair-use threshold defined per plan. Beyond that threshold, speeds may be reduced to 128 Kbps for the remainder of the validity period - still usable for messaging and basic browsing, but slower for streaming and video calls.
Do I need to remove my eSIM after my trip?
You don't have to remove it. Once your data plan expires, the eSIM simply stops providing data. You can leave the dormant profile on your phone and reuse it next time by purchasing a new plan, or delete it from cellular settings to free up an eSIM slot.
Is the eSIM connection secure?
eSIM connections are as secure as standard cellular connections - encrypted by the carrier network. For added security on public networks (cafes, airports), use a VPN. The eSIM profile itself is digitally signed and can't be cloned like a physical SIM.
Do I need to deactivate my original SIM?
We recommend turning off cellular data and data roaming on your original SIM while abroad to avoid accidental roaming charges. You don't need to physically remove the SIM - just disable data and set the eSIM as your primary data line.
What payment methods does eSIMno accept?
eSIMno accepts major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All transactions are processed through secure encrypted gateways, and we don't store full card details on our servers.
Will the eSIM work on my iPad?
Yes, if your iPad model supports eSIM. iPad Pro (3rd generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad mini (5th generation and later), and standard iPad (7th generation and later with cellular) all support eSIM. Installation works the same way as on iPhone.
Can I share data from my eSIM with someone else's phone?
Yes, through Personal Hotspot. Activate hotspot on your phone, share the password, and the other device connects to your data. Data used by connected devices counts toward your eSIM plan, so monitor usage to avoid running out faster than expected.
What smartphones support eSIM?
Most modern devices support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 through S25 series, Google Pixel 4 and later, Huawei P40 and later, and many recent iPads. Check our full compatibility list before purchasing to confirm your device is supported.
