For most international visitors, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport is the obvious arrival point. From the airport to the likely venue area at Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center in Bao’an, you’re usually looking at about 20 to 35 minutes by taxi in light traffic, or around 35 to 60 minutes by metro depending on your interchange. The metro route is often the calmer option during morning rush, especially once fair traffic builds.

The key transport detail is Shenzhen Metro Line 20, which was built to improve access to the exhibition zone. If you’re staying near Airport North, Fuhai, or around the exhibition center itself, your mornings get much easier. If you base yourself in Futian or Nanshan for more restaurant choices, budget 45 to 70 minutes door to door on event days. Taxi and rideshare-style car hires can work well after the halls close, but fares jump with traffic, so a CNY 90 ride can become CNY 140 pretty quickly.

For accommodation, look first at Fuhai and the wider Bao’an exhibition area if you want the shortest possible commute. Airport hotels are practical for late arrivals and early departures. Qianhai works if you want a more polished business-district feel and don’t mind a longer ride. Futian is still viable for travelers stacking meetings elsewhere in Shenzhen, but it’s not the most efficient base for this specific fair.

You probably won’t have a full sightseeing day during CIOE, so the trick is choosing places that fit around expo hours. Close to the venue side of town, OH Bay in Bao’an is a good decompression stop after the halls. It’s modern, easy for dinner, and much less of a citywide cliché than heading straight back across Shenzhen. If you’ve spent 8 hours under exhibition lights, a waterfront walk and a simple meal here can reset your brain.

For food, Bao’an’s seafood options are worth your time. Look for Cantonese seafood restaurants around the district and order simply: steamed fish, salt-and-pepper mantis shrimp, stir-fried clams, and a pot of congee if you’ve got a group. If you want something more classic Shenzhen-business-dinner coded, seek out roasted goose, claypot rice, and double-boiled soup. Late-night noodles near hotel clusters around the airport corridor can also save you when networking dinners run long.

If you’ve got a spare half-day, Sea World in Shekou works well for evening meetups, especially if clients or colleagues are based in the expatriate-heavy side of town. It’s not next door to the venue, so don’t force it on a packed fair day, but it’s useful for a more relaxed conversation than a noisy hotel lobby. Another option is Phoenix Mountain Forest Park in Bao’an if you want air, steps, and a break from industrial small talk; go early in the morning, not after a full expo day in September humidity.

And don’t leave Shenzhen without trying a proper Cantonese breakfast at least once. Congee, rice noodle rolls, and fresh soy milk beat another rushed pastry before a 09:00 hall opening.
