How the Voice Plan Works

This eSIM provides mobile data alongside a genuine French mobile number for voice calls and SMS. The two directions—outgoing and incoming—work differently, and understanding this distinction helps you get the most from your plan.

Outgoing calls and SMS are unlimited, but only while you're physically present in geographic Europe. This includes the Faroe Islands, mainland Europe, the UK, Iceland, and other European territories. Step outside this zone, and outgoing capability stops.

Incoming calls and SMS are free and work anywhere in the world. Whether you're in Tórshavn, transiting through Copenhagen, or even back home after your trip ends, people can still reach you at your French number at no cost to you. This makes the number ideal for receiving bank verification codes, booking confirmations, and callbacks from local services.

The phone number is French (+33), not Faroese. Anyone calling you dials an international French number. For Faroese businesses, this is routine—they're accustomed to visitors with foreign numbers.

Staying Connected in Remote Terrain

Is This Plan Right for You?

The Voice plan fits when: You're staying for weeks and need a reliable callback number for accommodation hosts, ferry bookings, or local appointments. You expect SMS verification codes from your bank or travel apps. You want people—colleagues, family, service providers—to reach you by phone without relying on internet-dependent apps. You're coordinating logistics that require actual phone conversations.

The standard data plan fits better when: Your trip is brief and you'll handle everything through WhatsApp, email, or other data-based messaging. You don't need anyone to call you back on a mobile number. You're comfortable using your home number's international roaming for the rare voice call. Your usage is primarily maps, social media, and light browsing rather than voice communication.

Traveller Tips

  • Share your French number with your rental host before arrival—they'll text door codes and check-in instructions directly to your eSIM line.
  • Add your new number to banking apps that require SMS verification; codes will arrive free of charge even if you leave Europe mid-trip.
  • Save the number in your contacts under a clear label so you can easily share it when booking tours or restaurants.
  • Keep your original SIM installed alongside the eSIM if your phone supports dual SIM—you can still receive calls to your home number via WiFi calling.
  • Remember outgoing calls work across geographic Europe, so you can call ahead to your Copenhagen hotel during a layover at no extra charge.
  • Since the line cannot be topped up, monitor your data usage through your phone's settings if you're a heavy user during a long stay.

Before you buy

  • Your number is French (+33) and it is not permanent — it changes roughly every 30 days.
  • Verification codes arrive fine during your trip. But don't set this as your permanent number for two-factor authentication or WhatsApp: when it changes, you can lose access to that account.
  • There is no top-up. When the plan ends the line closes — a new plan means a new eSIM to install and a new number.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The Voice eSIM provides a French (+33) mobile number rather than a local Faroese number. This is how the service operates across all European destinations. Anyone calling you will dial a French international number to reach you. Faroese businesses and services are accustomed to dealing with visitors who have foreign numbers.
No. Unlimited outgoing calls and SMS only work while you're physically in geographic Europe—including the Faroe Islands, mainland Europe, the UK, and Iceland. If you travel outside this geographic area, outgoing calls and SMS will not function. Incoming calls and SMS, however, are free and reach you anywhere in the world.
Yes. Incoming SMS messages are free and work anywhere in the world. You can update your banking apps to send verification codes to your French eSIM number, and they'll arrive whether you're in the Faroe Islands, elsewhere in Europe, or even after you've returned home—as long as the plan validity hasn't expired.
No. The Voice eSIM line cannot be refilled or topped up. When your data, minutes, or SMS allowance is exhausted, or when the 30-day validity period ends, the line closes permanently. If you anticipate heavy usage during an extended stay, consider purchasing a larger data allowance from the start.
No. Incoming calls and SMS are free of charge and do not deduct from your allowance. People can call or text your French number from anywhere in the world, and you'll receive those communications at no cost—whether you're in the Faroe Islands or have since travelled elsewhere.
When the 30-day validity period ends, the line closes and the French phone number is no longer active. You will not be able to make or receive calls and SMS on that number. Since there's no top-up option, you would need to purchase a new Voice eSIM if you require continued service.

Seamless global eSIM coverage

Get Started
The Voice eSIM for Faroe Islands combines mobile data with a real phone number capable of making and receiving calls and SMS. Outgoing calls and texts are unlimited while you're physically located anywhere in geographic Europe—not limited to EU membership, but the entire European landmass including the Faroe Islands. Incoming calls and SMS work differently: they're free of charge and reach you anywhere in the world, whether you're hiking Múlafossur or connecting through Reykjavik on your way home. This plan suits travellers who need a callback number for local services, appointment confirmations, or SMS verification codes from banks and apps. If your stay involves coordinating with local contacts, receiving booking confirmations, or simply needing people to reach you reliably, the Voice plan delivers what a data-only eSIM cannot. However, if you're spending a quick weekend photographing puffins and only need maps and messaging apps, the standard data plan costs less and serves you well. Every Voice plan runs for 30 days from activation. The line cannot be refilled or topped up—when your data, minutes, or SMS allowance runs out, or when the validity period ends, the service closes. Plan your data usage accordingly, especially if you expect heavy use during an extended Faroese adventure. The number you receive is French (+33), not a local Faroese number, so callers will dial internationally to reach you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find helpful information to answer your questions

How do I delete an eSIM I no longer need?
On iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap the eSIM line > Remove eSIM. On Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > tap the eSIM > Erase. Deleting the eSIM frees up a profile slot. Make sure you don't need it anymore - once deleted, you can't reinstall the same profile.
Is unlimited data really unlimited?
Unlimited plans provide unlimited data at high speed (4G/5G) up to a fair-use threshold defined per plan. Beyond that threshold, speeds may be reduced to 128 Kbps for the remainder of the validity period - still usable for messaging and basic browsing, but slower for streaming and video calls.
How do I activate the Faeroe-islands-voice eSIM?
Your eSIMno order confirmation email contains your QR code, your SM-DP+ address and activation code, a one-tap install link, and an "Install eSIM" button - so you can install right from the email. The same options are also on the website: sign in at esimno.com and go to Profile > My eSIMs > your plan > Install. To install, use any ONE of these methods: (1) on the phone you are setting up, tap the one-tap install link/button (iPhone on iOS 17.4+ or Android 9+); (2) use the QR code - because a phone cannot scan its own screen, show this QR on another screen (computer/tablet) or a printout and scan it WITH the phone you are setting up (never with someone else's phone, or the eSIM would install on that phone); or (3) enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code manually. Your Faeroe-islands-voice eSIM activates automatically when you connect to a local network at your destination.
Will my home phone number receive calls while I use the eSIM?
Yes - if your home SIM stays installed and active, calls and SMS to your home number arrive normally. On a data-only plan the eSIM carries data and your voice service stays on your home line. On a voice plan the eSIM line has its own calling and SMS in addition to your home number. Either way, remember that incoming calls and texts to your home number while abroad may trigger roaming charges from your home carrier.
Can I share data from my eSIM with someone else's phone?
Yes, through Personal Hotspot. Activate hotspot on your phone, share the password, and the other device connects to your data. Data used by connected devices counts toward your eSIM plan, so monitor usage to avoid running out faster than expected.
Will the eSIM work on my iPad?
Yes, if your iPad model supports eSIM. iPad Pro (3rd generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad mini (5th generation and later), and standard iPad (7th generation and later with cellular) all support eSIM. Installation works the same way as on iPhone.
Should I enable data roaming for the eSIM?
Yes - you must enable data roaming for the eSIM line, even though there are no roaming charges. The eSIM connects to a local partner network and your phone treats this as roaming. Enable it: iPhone > Settings > Cellular > eSIMno line > Data Roaming ON; Android > Settings > Network > SIMs > eSIMno > Roaming ON. This setting only affects the eSIM, not your home SIM.
When should I set up my eSIM?
A Wi-Fi connection is required to install your eSIM, so we recommend setting it up before you leave home. Activation can happen later, either right before departure or after you land at your destination - but the initial QR scan needs Wi-Fi.
Will I get notifications when my data is running low?
Yes. eSIMno sends email and push notifications when you've used 50%, 80%, and 100% of your data allowance. You can also check usage anytime in the eSIMno Center or in your phone's cellular settings to track consumption in real time.
Can I buy an eSIM for someone else as a gift?
Yes. Purchase the eSIM with your own details, then forward your order confirmation email - or share the "Install eSIM" link from it - with the recipient so they can install it on their own phone (the email contains the QR code and the manual SM-DP+ / activation codes). Make sure their device is eSIM-compatible first - installation usually cannot be reversed once completed.
Can I extend my eSIM plan validity?
The validity of a package that is already running cannot be extended, but you can top up: a top-up adds a new package with its own data AND its own validity days. Packages run one at a time - the top-up waits in queue and activates automatically when your current package ends (data used up or days expired), and its own days start counting from that moment. In practice this keeps you connected longer, even though the current package's own end date does not move.
Does the eSIM work in rural areas and small towns?
Coverage depends on the partner network's reach in Faeroe-islands-voice. Major cities, tourist areas, and highways typically have strong 4G/5G coverage. Remote rural areas may have weaker signal or fall back to 3G. Download offline maps before heading off the beaten path.
