How to Get Your eSIM

  1. Pick Your Germany Data Plan
Choose from eSIMno's Germany packages based on your visit length. A 3-5 day plan covers most zoo visits plus city exploration; longer stays work for multi-city German itineraries.
  2. Install Over WiFi Before You Fly
Scan the QR code at home while connected to stable WiFi. The profile downloads in under two minutes — no physical card, no kiosk queue at BER or Tegel.
  3. Keep Your Home SIM Active for Calls
Your phone runs both SIMs simultaneously. Incoming calls reach your home number; outgoing calls go through WhatsApp or FaceTime over your eSIMno data. Native voice calls trigger roaming fees — stick to data-based calling.
  4. Activate After Landing in Berlin
Once the aircraft reaches the gate, switch off airplane mode. Your eSIM connects to O2, T-Mobile, or Vodafone within seconds — data works before you clear passport control.
  5. Navigate to Zoo Berlin With Live Transit
Open BVG Fahrinfo or Google Maps and route to Zoologischer Garten station. Real-time S-Bahn and U-Bahn updates keep you on the right platform — your tickets and zoo confirmation load instantly from your email.

Traveler Tips

  • Arrive at the Elephant Gate entrance by 09:30 on weekends to beat the family crowds — the panda house and aquarium fill up fast after 11:00.
  • Download the official Zoo Berlin app before your visit for real-time feeding schedules and an interactive map that works offline once cached.
  • The aquarium (included with combo tickets) sits adjacent to the main zoo but has a separate entrance — scan your QR code at both gates.
  • Set your eSIM as the default data line in your phone's cellular settings before departure; voice stays on your home SIM automatically.
  • Zoologischer Garten station (S-Bahn and U-Bahn hub) sits directly at the zoo entrance — skip taxis and use BVG Fahrinfo for platform updates.

Why Data Matters at Zoo Berlin

Zoo Berlin covers 35 hectares with over 20,000 animals across themed zones — the kind of sprawling grounds where your phone becomes a navigation essential. Mobile tickets require scanning at the main gate and again at the aquarium entrance; the zoo's app delivers live feeding times for the giant pandas, sea lions, and penguin colony; and your group chat keeps everyone synced when half the family wants the nocturnal house while the kids chase the elephant enclosure.

Public WiFi appears near the Panda Garden restaurant and the main plaza, but coverage drops the moment you walk toward outdoor exhibits — exactly when you need the interactive map or want to video-call family with that gorilla sighting. Reliable data means the BVG Fahrinfo app loads your return S-Bahn schedule from Zoologischer Garten station, OpenTable or TheFork pulls up dinner reservations near Potsdamer Platz after your visit, and Google Translate handles any German signage the kids puzzle over.

Beyond the zoo gates, your eSIMno plans for Zoo Berlin, Berlin, Germany keep working across the entire country. The same connection that uploads your flamingo photos works on the ICE train to Munich's Tierpark Hellabrunn or while navigating the Museum Island galleries the next morning. One eSIM, one activation, coverage wherever Germany takes you — no secondary SIM hunt, no café WiFi passwords, no dead zones between exhibits.

Visiting Zoo Berlin

The zoo opens daily at 09:00, with closing times varying seasonally between 16:30 (winter) and 18:30 (summer) — check the official site the morning of your visit for that day's exact hours. Combo tickets covering both the zoo and the adjacent aquarium offer better value than separate entries; book online to skip the ticket-window queue at the Elephant Gate.

Zoologischer Garten station serves as the main transit hub, with U2, U9, S3, S5, S7, and S9 lines stopping directly at the entrance. From BER Airport, the S9 runs directly without transfers in around 35-40 minutes. Inside, the panda house and aquarium draw the longest lines between 11:00-14:00 — hit them early or late to avoid peak crowds. Strollers rent near the main entrance, and the grounds are wheelchair-accessible with paved paths throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Activate after your flight lands at BER — once you taxi to the gate and switch off airplane mode, your data connects within seconds. By the time you're walking through Zoologischer Garten station toward the Elephant Gate, your phone is already pulling up the zoo app and transit directions.
Yes — the eSIMno connection runs through O2, T-Mobile, and Vodafone infrastructure, which maintains solid coverage throughout the aquarium's three floors. You'll have no trouble scanning your combo ticket QR at the entrance or uploading photos from the crocodile hall.
Take the S9 directly from BER Terminal 1-2 station to Zoologischer Garten — the ride runs around 35-40 minutes with no transfers required. Real-time platform updates load on BVG Fahrinfo or Google Maps the moment your eSIM activates after landing.
Absolutely — your phone runs both SIMs simultaneously. Incoming calls reach your home number as normal; for outgoing calls, use WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Google Meet over your eSIMno data to avoid roaming charges on your home carrier.
The same plan covers all of Germany — whether you're catching the ICE to Munich, exploring Hamburg's Speicherstadt, or heading to Frankfurt for a connecting flight. One activation, nationwide coverage across every city and transit route.
Arrive when gates open at 09:00, especially on weekends. The panda house and aquarium fill up between 11:00-14:00 — hit those enclosures first or save them for the final hour before closing when families start heading home.
Zoo Berlin sprawls across 35 hectares in the heart of the city, and your phone becomes essential the moment you pass through the historic Elephant Gate. Mobile tickets need scanning at every major section, the interactive zoo app serves as your real-time map to feeding schedules and animal locations, and your group chat keeps everyone coordinated when the kids scatter toward different enclosures. Public WiFi exists in patches near the restaurants but drops the moment you step toward the outdoor exhibits — exactly when you need directions to the panda house or want to upload that elephant encounter. Activate your eSIM after touchdown at Berlin Tegel Airport or while taxiing in at BER, and your data works immediately. The S-Bahn ride from the airport into Zoologischer Garten station takes 30-40 minutes depending on which terminal you land at, and real-time transit apps like BVG Fahrinfo or Google Maps keep you on the right platform without hunting for departure boards. Once you're inside the zoo, continuous data means the feeding schedule updates reach your phone instantly, the aquarium entry QR scans without fumbling, and video calls to family back home stream smoothly from the gorilla viewing area. Beyond the zoo gates, the same eSIM keeps working across Berlin, through the ICE network to Munich or Frankfurt, and anywhere else your Germany itinerary takes you. One purchase, one activation, nationwide coverage on O2, T-Mobile, and Vodafone infrastructure — no SIM kiosk queue at the airport, no hunting for WiFi passwords at every café. Your data starts at Zoo Berlin and stays with you across the entire trip.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How fast does the eSIM activate after I switch off airplane mode?
Activation typically takes 10-30 seconds after airplane mode is switched off, depending on local network availability. In some cases it's nearly instant; in remote areas it may take a minute or two. If it doesn't connect within 5 minutes, restart your phone or check that data roaming is enabled.
Can I make phone calls or send SMS?
It depends on the plan you choose. Most eSIMno plans are data-only: on those you cannot place regular calls or send SMS from the eSIM line, but messaging and calling apps work normally over the data connection - WhatsApp, iMessage, FaceTime, Telegram, Signal and Google Meet. We also offer voice plans in selected destinations, and on those calling and SMS work from the eSIM line itself, which comes with its own French phone number and unlimited calling across Europe. Every plan card shows which type it is, so check the plan type before you buy. If you are looking at a voice plan, please also read who you can call and text, and what happens to the phone number - both are explained in their own questions below.
What should I do if I see a 'No network' message after activating my eSIM?
If you see a 'No network' message after activation, try these steps in order: (1) Toggle airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then off. (2) Confirm data roaming is enabled for the eSIM line. (3) Manually select a network in cellular settings. (4) Restart your phone. If the issue continues, contact eSIMno support via WhatsApp or email.
What customer support is available if I have issues?
eSIMno offers support via WhatsApp and email. Our team helps with installation, troubleshooting, billing questions and refund requests during business hours, and our automated assistant answers common questions 24/7. Most issues are resolved within minutes during business hours.
Can I share data from my eSIM with someone else's phone?
Yes, through Personal Hotspot. Activate hotspot on your phone, share the password, and the other device connects to your data. Data used by connected devices counts toward your eSIM plan, so monitor usage to avoid running out faster than expected.
When should I set up my eSIM?
A Wi-Fi connection is required to install your eSIM, so we recommend setting it up before you leave home. Activation can happen later, either right before departure or after you land at your destination - but the initial QR scan needs Wi-Fi.
Can I use the eSIM to make video calls?
Yes - apps like FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams all work over your eSIM data. Video calls use about 200-400 MB per hour depending on quality, so factor that into your plan choice if you make long calls regularly.
Who can I call and text on a voice plan?
Outgoing calls and SMS are unlimited across Europe - that is the calling area, and it is not the same as where the plan gives you data. Incoming calls and SMS go further: they reach you from anywhere in the world, they are free, and they do not use up your allowance. So if someone back home calls or texts your eSIM number, it arrives no matter where they are calling from. If you mainly need to be reachable rather than to make calls, that matters more than the outgoing area.
How can I verify if my eSIM is activated?
There are two clear indicators: (1) your phone's status bar shows the local carrier name once you arrive at your destination, and (2) the data icon (4G, LTE, or 5G) appears next to the eSIMno line in your cellular settings. If neither shows up, turn airplane mode on and then off again, or restart your phone.
Do I need to remove my eSIM after my trip?
You don't have to remove it. When your plan ends, the eSIM stops providing data and moves to Archived in Profile > My eSIMs. If you keep it installed on your phone, you can top it up there and use it again - no new QR code needed (top-ups aren't available for unlimited and voice plans). If you need the space, you can delete the old profile in your phone's cellular settings; after that, you'll need a new eSIM for your next trip.
Can I keep my WhatsApp number while using an eSIM?
Yes. Your WhatsApp number stays linked to your home SIM, so all your chats, contacts, and groups remain unchanged. WhatsApp uses data (not the SIM line directly) for messages and calls, so it works seamlessly over your eSIMno data.
How can I purchase the Germany eSIM?
You can purchase your eSIM directly from the eSIMno website - select a Germany plan and complete the payment. Within minutes you'll receive an order confirmation email that contains everything you need to install: a QR code, a one-tap install link, the SM-DP+ address and activation code, plus an "Install eSIM" button. You can install straight from that email, or sign in anytime and go to Profile > My eSIMs > Install to get the same options.
