How to Get Your eSIM

  1. Choose Your Turkey Plan Before The Trip
Pick your data amount before you fly so you are not comparing SIM shops on arrival day. If Kadıköy is your first base but the rest of your trip includes the Old City, the Bosphorus, or another stop in Turkey, buy once for the whole route instead of solving data city by city.
  2. Install It While You Still Have Reliable Wi-Fi
Set up the eSIM at home or at your departure hotel and leave it ready on the phone. That way you are not trying to scan a QR code in a busy arrivals hall or while dragging bags onto the airport transfer toward the city.
  3. Activate After You Land
Turn the eSIM on after landing, once the captain clears phone use. By the time you are checking the best route from the airport toward Söğütlüçeşme, the Kadıköy ferry piers, or your hotel in Moda, your data is already live.
  4. Use Data First For The Kadıköy Transfer
Your first minutes online usually go to Google Maps, BiTaksi, WhatsApp, and Istanbulkart guidance. If your route changes from metro to ferry or from rail to taxi, you can adjust in real time instead of locking into the first option you saw on airport Wi-Fi.
  5. Keep Your Home SIM On For Voice
eSIMno is data-only, so your home SIM stays active for incoming voice calls with no extra setup. For outbound calls, use WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, or another internet-based app over your data and avoid placing native roaming calls through your home line.

Traveler Tips

  • If you are crossing into Kadıköy by ferry, activate your eSIM before you reach the pier so live departures, turnstile info, and the right dock all load without delay.
  • Kadıköy spreads quickly from the waterfront to Moda and Bahariye, so save your hotel pin before you arrive and keep maps running as you walk; the street grid feels easy until you add tram stops, hills, and side streets.
  • Buy or top up an Istanbulkart through the official flow on your phone when needed, especially if you are chaining Marmaray, metro, and ferry in one evening.
  • Friday evenings and weekend nights around Kadıköy Çarşı can get crowded, which is exactly when you want data for ride-hailing, messaging, and checking the fastest rail option home.
  • If you want to keep your home number reachable, leave your home SIM active for voice and use data apps for messages and internet calls while moving between Kadıköy and the European side.
  • For a first visit, daytime arrival into Kadıköy is the easiest rhythm: ferries are simple to read, café addresses are easier to find, and you can sort out directions before the late-night crowd fills the waterfront.

Why Data Matters at Kadıköy

Kadıköy is not a place where you check one pin and put the phone away. The district works in moving pieces: ferry departures from the waterfront, Marmaray and metro connections through Söğütlüçeşme, and shifting pickup points for BiTaksi when streets near the market are busy. That means data matters from the first transfer, not later in the day. A working eSIM lets you check maps, confirm your exact meeting point, message a host, and switch between rail and ferry without losing momentum. If your plan includes the food streets around Kadıköy Çarşı, the cafés in Moda, and a sunset crossing back toward Karaköy or Eminönü, your phone becomes the live control panel for timing, navigation, and reservations.

This is also a district where travelers split up and regroup constantly. One person wants the antique side streets near Tellalzade, another heads for the waterfront promenade, and somebody else is arriving from Karaköy on the next boat. Group chats, location sharing, and live ETA updates keep that simple. Add translation for menus, card top-up guidance for Istanbulkart, and booking confirmations for a walking tour or dinner table, and you are already well past what patchy public Wi-Fi can handle comfortably. That is why eSIMno plans for Kadıköy, Istanbul, Turkey work best when they are installed before departure and switched on after landing: you arrive ready to move, not ready to troubleshoot.

The payoff continues after Kadıköy. If the day expands to Taksim by ferry and funicular, to Sultanahmet by Marmaray and tram, or to a second hotel elsewhere in Turkey, the same plan keeps working. You buy for this district, but you use it across the whole country. That is the right setup for a trip where one neighborhood can turn into a full-city day in under an hour.

Visiting Kadıköy

Kadıköy is a district rather than a single gated attraction, so there is no one ticket desk, one opening hour, or one entry procedure to plan around. The practical question is how you will move through it. The busiest visitor zones cluster around the ferry waterfront, Kadıköy market streets, Bahariye Avenue, and Moda, and those areas are easiest to handle if you save addresses in advance and arrive with a charged phone. If you are meeting a guide, confirm the exact landmark in the booking email before leaving, because waterfront meeting points can be only a few minutes apart on foot yet easy to mix up in a crowd.

For transport, the useful habit is to think in links rather than in one direct route. Kadıköy connects well by ferry, suburban rail, metro, bus, and taxi, and the fastest option changes with traffic and time of day. Late afternoon and evening crossings can also shift your best route back toward the European side, so checking live departures matters more than memorizing a fixed plan. If you are visiting on a Friday night or over the weekend, allow extra time around the market and bar streets because the pedestrian flow thickens after dinner and pickup points become slower to reach. Comfortable shoes, a charged battery, and a working data plan do more for a smooth Kadıköy visit than any printed itinerary.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Activate it after you land in Istanbul, not before takeoff. That timing works best because your phone is ready by the time you are checking the route toward Kadıköy, whether you continue by Marmaray, metro, ferry, or taxi from the airport.
Yes — the plan is for Turkey, so it keeps working after Kadıköy if your trip moves on to Sultanahmet, Taksim, the Bosphorus, or another city. That is useful in Istanbul because a quick day plan can easily expand from the Asian side into a full cross-city itinerary.
The core stack is usually Google Maps for walking directions, BiTaksi for car pickups, WhatsApp for host or group messages, and the transport tools you use to manage Istanbulkart and live departures. In Kadıköy, that matters right away because ferry timing and pickup points change through the day.
Yes. eSIMno is data-only, so your home SIM can stay active for incoming voice calls while the eSIM handles maps, messaging, and internet use as you move between Kadıköy, Moda, and the ferry side. For outgoing calls, use WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, or another data-based app.
It is much easier with data. Kadıköy looks straightforward on a static map, but the useful choices depend on live ferry departures, rail timing near Söğütlüçeşme, and the exact pickup spot your driver or guide sends you.
Kadıköy is one of those places where mobile data matters before the day has even settled. You land, clear the airport flow, and then the real decisions begin on your phone: which transfer gets you across the city fastest, whether the ferry is the better move than Marmaray, where your host wants to meet, and which café or hotel pin is actually the correct one. Buying your eSIM in advance removes that first-hour friction. You install over home Wi-Fi, keep it ready, and activate after landing so maps, ride apps, and messages start working as soon as you switch off airplane mode. Once you reach Kadıköy, the data use keeps stacking up fast. Travelers bounce between the waterfront, Moda, Bahariye, and late-night food stops with live navigation open, translation running, and booking messages still arriving. Ferries between Kadıköy, Eminönü, and Karaköy shift through the day, and a real-time check on your phone is far more useful than guessing from a static timetable. The same applies if you are meeting a walking tour, scanning a mobile reservation, checking card top-up info, or coordinating in WhatsApp with friends coming over from the European side. The bigger win is that your plan does not stop at Kadıköy. A Turkey eSIM keeps working if your trip expands to Taksim Square, the old-city monuments around Hagia Sophia, or even onward to Cappadocia later in the same itinerary. That makes this a better buy than hunting for a local SIM after arrival, then replacing it again when your route changes. One setup, one activation after landing, and data that stays with you across the rest of your Turkey trip.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Does my voice plan come with a phone number I can keep?
Your voice plan has its own phone number, and it is issued in France - so you get a French number even when the plan itself is for another country. It is not a permanent number and you cannot keep it: it changes roughly every 30 days. Voice plans also cannot be topped up, so when the plan ends you buy a new one, with a new eSIM to install and a different number. Please treat the number as something that belongs to the trip, not to you - if you need a number that stays yours for years, a voice eSIM is not the right product.
When should I set up my eSIM?
A Wi-Fi connection is required to install your eSIM, so we recommend setting it up before you leave home. Activation can happen later, either right before departure or after you land at your destination - but the initial QR scan needs Wi-Fi.
What should I do if I see a 'No network' message after activating my eSIM?
If you see a 'No network' message after activation, try these steps in order: (1) Toggle airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then off. (2) Confirm data roaming is enabled for the eSIM line. (3) Manually select a network in cellular settings. (4) Restart your phone. If the issue continues, contact eSIMno support via WhatsApp or email.
Can I share data from my eSIM with someone else's phone?
Yes, through Personal Hotspot. Activate hotspot on your phone, share the password, and the other device connects to your data. Data used by connected devices counts toward your eSIM plan, so monitor usage to avoid running out faster than expected.
Can I switch the eSIM to a different phone after activation?
Generally no. Once an eSIM is activated on a device, it's tied to that device. If you switch phones, you'll need to install a new eSIM. Some carriers offer eSIM transfer features, but eSIMno plans don't currently support transfer between devices.
Will I get notifications when my data is running low?
Yes. eSIMno sends email and push notifications when you've used 50%, 80%, and 100% of your data allowance. You can also check usage anytime in Profile > My eSIMs or in your phone's cellular settings to track consumption in real time.
What makes eSIMno different from other eSIM services?
eSIMno offers eSIM plans for 170+ countries on reliable local partner networks. The price at checkout is all you pay - no activation fee or roaming surcharge. Your eSIM arrives by email within minutes and only starts when it connects to a network at your destination; most plans can be topped up in Profile > My eSIMs, and if you haven't installed your eSIM, you can get a refund within 14 days.
Can I use the eSIM for my smartwatch?
Some smartwatches (Apple Watch Cellular, Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE) support eSIM, but they typically require a plan from your home carrier rather than a travel eSIM. eSIMno plans are designed for phones and tablets - check device compatibility before purchase if you intend to use a wearable.
Can I make phone calls or send SMS?
It depends on the plan you choose. Most eSIMno plans are data-only: on those you cannot place regular calls or send SMS from the eSIM line, but messaging and calling apps work normally over the data connection - WhatsApp, iMessage, FaceTime, Telegram, Signal and Google Meet. We also offer voice plans in selected destinations, and on those calling and SMS work from the eSIM line itself, which comes with its own French phone number and unlimited calling across Europe. Every plan card shows which type it is, so check the plan type before you buy. If you are looking at a voice plan, please also read who you can call and text, and what happens to the phone number - both are explained in their own questions below.
Can I extend my eSIM plan validity?
The validity of a package that is already running cannot be extended, but you can top up: a top-up adds a new package with its own data AND its own validity days. Packages run one at a time - the top-up waits in queue and activates automatically when your current package ends (data used up or days expired), and its own days start counting from that moment. In practice this keeps you connected longer, even though the current package's own end date does not move.
What happens when my voice or unlimited plan ends? Can I renew it?
These plans cannot be topped up or renewed. Once the allowance is used or the validity period ends, the line closes. To keep going you buy a new plan, and that gives you a new eSIM to install - on a voice plan it also gives you a new phone number. This is how our supplier provides voice and unlimited plans, so we would rather tell you up front than let you expect an automatic renewal that will not happen. We never renew these plans and charge you without asking.
Can I use the eSIM to make video calls?
Yes - apps like FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams all work over your eSIM data. Video calls use about 200-400 MB per hour depending on quality, so factor that into your plan choice if you make long calls regularly.
