UK Unlimited eSIM: Daily Data with All-Day Fallback Connection

Platform 9 at King's Cross, two hours until your connection, and six more stops before tonight's hotel in Edinburgh. Long-haul travel days through the UK demand a connection that survives the whole journey without rationing every megabyte. eSIMno Unlimited plans give you 1 GB of high-speed data each day — and when that runs out, the connection slows but never dies.

How to Get Your eSIM

  1. Purchase and receive your QR code
Complete checkout and your eSIM QR code arrives instantly via email. No physical SIM card, no waiting for delivery.
  2. Scan and install before departure
Go to your phone's eSIM settings and scan the QR code. Install while you still have Wi-Fi — the eSIM will sit ready until you activate it.
  3. Activate when you land in the UK
Enable the eSIM data line once you arrive. Your device connects to EE or O2 automatically.
  4. Monitor your daily usage
Track your high-speed data in your phone settings. After 1 GB, speeds slow to 128 Kbps but the connection continues uninterrupted.

How the Unlimited Plan Works

Each day you get 1 GB of high-speed data on EE or O2 networks. Use it for whatever you need — uploads, downloads, navigation, social media. Once that gigabyte is consumed, your connection continues at 128 Kbps until the next reset.

At 128 Kbps, you can still load maps, send and receive text messages through WhatsApp or iMessage, check email, and browse basic websites. You cannot stream video, make reliable video calls, or upload large files. This is the honest trade-off: you're never cut off, but heavy use after the quota means patience.

The daily allowance resets at 00:00 UTC — that is a fixed moment in UTC, not midnight where you are, so check your phone's UTC offset if you plan around it. Every Unlimited bundle, regardless of validity length, includes 1 GB of high-speed data per day.

This is a data-only eSIM. There is no phone number attached, which means no voice calls and no SMS. If you need to receive verification codes or make actual phone calls, consider the UK Phone Number eSIM plan instead, which includes a working number.

Is This Plan Right for You?

The Unlimited plan fits you if: You're crossing the UK in a single long travel day — airports, trains, buses, and waiting rooms from morning to night. You need maps and messaging to keep working no matter what. You want the security of never being disconnected, even if speeds drop. Your usage is spread throughout the day rather than concentrated in heavy sessions.

A standard data plan fits better if: Your trip exceeds seven days — the longest Unlimited validity available. You need video calls for work or large file uploads that require consistent high speeds. You'd rather have a larger data bucket without the daily reset structure. For trips longer than a week or heavier bandwidth needs, the United Kingdom page lists fixed-data plans with extended validity that may suit you better.

Neither plan includes voice calls or SMS. This is purely about keeping your data connection alive throughout your journey across the United Kingdom.

Traveller Tips

  • Download offline maps for areas with weak signal before your high-speed quota runs out — the 128 Kbps fallback works better with cached map tiles.
  • Queue large downloads and photo backups for when you're on hotel Wi-Fi; the Unlimited plan excels at steady light usage, not bulk transfers.
  • Keep messaging apps in text mode after hitting your daily limit — voice notes and image-heavy chats will struggle at 128 Kbps.
  • Set your phone to show UTC time as a secondary clock so you know exactly when your daily quota resets without converting time zones.
  • If travelling with others, each person benefits from their own Unlimited eSIM rather than draining one plan's daily quota through hotspot sharing.
  • Plan your heaviest data use — video research, large emails, app updates — for early in your day when your full-speed quota is fresh.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Your connection slows to 128 Kbps but is never cut off. At this speed, you can still use maps, send text messages through apps like WhatsApp, and check email. Video streaming and video calls will not work reliably. Your full-speed allowance returns at the next daily reset.
The daily quota resets at 00:00 UTC. That is a fixed moment in UTC, not midnight where you are, so check your phone's UTC offset if you plan around it.
No. The Unlimited eSIM cannot be refilled or topped up. When your validity period ends, the line closes permanently. If you need more time, you'll need to purchase a new eSIM.
Yes, 128 Kbps handles navigation apps adequately, especially if you've cached some map data while at full speed. Text-based messaging and basic email also work. However, loading image-heavy websites, streaming music, or making video calls will be frustrating or impossible at this speed.
No. This is a data-only eSIM with no phone number, no voice calls, and no SMS capability. If you need to receive verification texts or make phone calls, you'll need a different plan type that includes a working number.
The longest Unlimited plan available is 7 days. For longer trips, we recommend the standard UK data plans, which offer extended validity periods better suited to stays of a week or more.
The United Kingdom Unlimited eSIM delivers 1 GB of high-speed data every day. Once you hit that daily allowance, speeds drop to 128 Kbps — enough for Google Maps navigation, WhatsApp messages, and checking email, but not for streaming video or making VoIP calls. This is data only: no phone number, no calls, no SMS. The daily quota resets at 00:00 UTC; that is a fixed moment in UTC, not midnight where you are, so check your phone's UTC offset if you plan around it. This plan fits travellers who need reliable background connectivity across a long day rather than heavy media consumption. If you're navigating train connections, keeping colleagues updated, or downloading boarding passes between legs, the unlimited fallback means you'll never lose your map mid-journey. However, if your trip requires video conferencing, large uploads, or consistently high bandwidth, the standard data plans with larger fixed allowances may serve you better. The Unlimited line cannot be refilled or topped up. When your validity period ends — whether 1, 3, 5, or 7 days — the line closes permanently. For trips longer than a week, purchase a standard data plan with extended validity instead. This is the honest trade-off: guaranteed connection continuity in exchange for accepting the daily speed limit.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Does my voice plan come with a phone number I can keep?
Your voice plan has its own phone number, and it is issued in France - so you get a French number even when the plan itself is for another country. It is not a permanent number and you cannot keep it: it changes roughly every 30 days. Voice plans also cannot be topped up, so when the plan ends you buy a new one, with a new eSIM to install and a different number. Please treat the number as something that belongs to the trip, not to you - if you need a number that stays yours for years, a voice eSIM is not the right product.
When should I set up my eSIM?
A Wi-Fi connection is required to install your eSIM, so we recommend setting it up before you leave home. Activation can happen later, either right before departure or after you land at your destination - but the initial QR scan needs Wi-Fi.
What should I do if I see a 'No network' message after activating my eSIM?
If you see a 'No network' message after activation, try these steps in order: (1) Toggle airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then off. (2) Confirm data roaming is enabled for the eSIM line. (3) Manually select a network in cellular settings. (4) Restart your phone. If the issue continues, contact eSIMno support via WhatsApp or email.
Can I share data from my eSIM with someone else's phone?
Yes, through Personal Hotspot. Activate hotspot on your phone, share the password, and the other device connects to your data. Data used by connected devices counts toward your eSIM plan, so monitor usage to avoid running out faster than expected.
Can I switch the eSIM to a different phone after activation?
Generally no. Once an eSIM is activated on a device, it's tied to that device. If you switch phones, you'll need to install a new eSIM. Some carriers offer eSIM transfer features, but eSIMno plans don't currently support transfer between devices.
Will I get notifications when my data is running low?
Yes. eSIMno sends email and push notifications when you've used 50%, 80%, and 100% of your data allowance. You can also check usage anytime in Profile > My eSIMs or in your phone's cellular settings to track consumption in real time.
What makes eSIMno different from other eSIM services?
eSIMno offers eSIM plans for 170+ countries on reliable local partner networks. The price at checkout is all you pay - no activation fee or roaming surcharge. Your eSIM arrives by email within minutes and only starts when it connects to a network at your destination; most plans can be topped up in Profile > My eSIMs, and if you haven't installed your eSIM, you can get a refund within 14 days.
Can I use the eSIM for my smartwatch?
Some smartwatches (Apple Watch Cellular, Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE) support eSIM, but they typically require a plan from your home carrier rather than a travel eSIM. eSIMno plans are designed for phones and tablets - check device compatibility before purchase if you intend to use a wearable.
Can I make phone calls or send SMS?
It depends on the plan you choose. Most eSIMno plans are data-only: on those you cannot place regular calls or send SMS from the eSIM line, but messaging and calling apps work normally over the data connection - WhatsApp, iMessage, FaceTime, Telegram, Signal and Google Meet. We also offer voice plans in selected destinations, and on those calling and SMS work from the eSIM line itself, which comes with its own French phone number and unlimited calling across Europe. Every plan card shows which type it is, so check the plan type before you buy. If you are looking at a voice plan, please also read who you can call and text, and what happens to the phone number - both are explained in their own questions below.
Can I extend my eSIM plan validity?
The validity of a package that is already running cannot be extended, but you can top up: a top-up adds a new package with its own data AND its own validity days. Packages run one at a time - the top-up waits in queue and activates automatically when your current package ends (data used up or days expired), and its own days start counting from that moment. In practice this keeps you connected longer, even though the current package's own end date does not move.
What happens when my voice or unlimited plan ends? Can I renew it?
These plans cannot be topped up or renewed. Once the allowance is used or the validity period ends, the line closes. To keep going you buy a new plan, and that gives you a new eSIM to install - on a voice plan it also gives you a new phone number. This is how our supplier provides voice and unlimited plans, so we would rather tell you up front than let you expect an automatic renewal that will not happen. We never renew these plans and charge you without asking.
Can I use the eSIM to make video calls?
Yes - apps like FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams all work over your eSIM data. Video calls use about 200-400 MB per hour depending on quality, so factor that into your plan choice if you make long calls regularly.
